MAC Pro Longwear Foundation NC 30 Review & Swatches – Best Foundation in India For Combination To Oily Skintype
My baby aka HBM turns the big 1 today and I couldn’t be happier and proud of how far we’ve come. Its been one exciting and satisfying ride and I hope to take it miles further. Any of this wouldn’t be possible without your support so watch out for another amazing giveaway coming up later today.
Since its the blog’s first anniversary I decided to review one of my favorite products, my HG foundation- MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC 30. I have been using this for over an year and the review has been long pending. I recently finished this off and I might just invest in it yet again as I haven’t come across something as great as this. Read on to know why I love it so much.
Price: Rs 2100 (probably increased now)
A comfortable, long-wearing foundation that gives up to 15 hours of wear in any environmental condition. Lightweight and creamy, applies and blends easily leaving the skin feeling soft and free to breathe all day while controlling oil. Specially treated micronized pigments help give a smoother, more flawless, natural finish with stay-true colour.
The MAC Pro Longwear Foundation comes in a sturdy glass bottle with a pump dispenser hence you need not buy one additionally unlike the MAC Studio Fix Fluid. The pump dispenses just the right amount and I usually need 2-3 pumps for both the face and neck. I have travelled numerous times with this and never did it break once so yes its travel friendly despite being a glass bottle.
Texture & Finish
The MAC Pro Longwear Foundation has a thick liquid consistency. It applies smoothly but dries quickly so you need to work with it a bit fast or apply it in sections. The foundation does not feel sticky and certainly does not transfer onto phones. I wanted a foundation which looks natural but makes me look made up but not the “hey look at me, I have makeup on” kinda finish. I do love a natural finish for everyday wear but for events and parties you need something which hides your flaws while looking natural. MAC Prolongwear Foundation provides just that!
It gives a satin finish which is not completely matte and flat nor dewy or oily. It is an absolute god sent for combination to oily skin, especially in summers. Those with dry to normal skin can make it work with a heavy duty moisturizer incase you want a sweat resistant formula in summers. The foundation provides medium coverage and does not look cakey. It does settle down around my nose and emphasizes the pores hence I make sure to use a primer and moisturize my face well.
Another criteria that I had while I was looking for a foundation was the staying power. I primarily needed it for long time wear since I had a bunch of family weddings coming up and this claimed to provide a 15 hr stay. The Pro Longwear Foundation certainly lived upto the claims and survived the blazing summers and the humid weather with elan. It is waterproof hence perfect for summer months when you tend to sweat alot and will not get wiped off. The amazing staying power and the low SPF make it one of the best foundations for parties and photography as it does not give a white cast.
I had a bit of a hard time finding my shade and I was matched to a different shade everytime I visited the store. Most of the times the foundation made me look too dull which in turn made me hate the range but it was actually the wrong shade. Luckily I found a friendly MUA who gave me generous samples of quite a few shades so that I could judge which suited me best and NC 30 was a close match. Pls note that MAC Pro Longwear Foundations have a strong yellow undertone hence bit darker so if NC 30 suits in Studio Fix Fluid then you’ll probably need to go a shade a lighter in Pro Longwear.
This is still a bit too orange and dark for me as you can judge from the swatch but looks much better on the face. I make sure to powder it with a lighter shade to balance it off. I strongly recommend getting a sample before investing in any MAC foundation as they tend to oxidize so its best to wear it 2-3 times to judge if its a close match. I wasn’t at all pleased with the Pro Longwear Foundations on my first try because of the wrong shade being selected for me so make sure you experiment and don’t be scared to make the MUA try 10 different shades (if need be) on you until you are pleased.
I have used the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation NC 30 in pretty much all my looks and this is how it looks on me in different lighting.
1) Medium Coverage and hides blemishes well
2) Amazing staying power and stays put for 12+ hours
3) Waterproof and sweat resistant time
4) The best foundation for flash photography as it does not give a white cast.
5) Beautiful satin finish which is not matte nor too dewy
6) Has a strong yellow undertone hence perfect for warmer complexions
1) Might not suit pale complexions well as it has a strong yellow undertone
2) Tends to settle into dry patches
HBM Recommendation: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation is one of my highly recommended base products as it has a tremendous staying power, gives a beautiful satin finish with medium coverage. If you are looking for a foundation which is perfect for functions and photography then high time you check this out. Shade selection can be a bit tricky as it tends to oxidize so make sure you experiment and find the one closest to your skin tone. Highly recommended for those with combination to oily skin.
