Original Beauty Blender Review + How To Use a Beauty Blender

Beauty Blender Review, Price, Buy Online India + How to use a Beauty Blender Sponge

Makeup tools are as important as good makeup products. You can use the best high end foundation out there but unless you use the right tool to apply it, the finish will be anything but perfect. Personally, I prefer a stippling brush but the easiest way to apply base products is by using a makeup sponge. One of the most raved about makeup sponges has been the original beauty blender which got so popular that the market is currently flooded with its dupes. I finally gave into the hype and got my the beauty blender sponge which I will be reviewing today!

Beauty Blender Review & Availability in India

The Beauty Blender is packaged in a plastic dome like box which mentions all the details about the products. It is an egg shaped sponge which is a vibrant hot pink in color. I was a bit surprised by the size, it looked too tiny for my huge face but once you dampen it with water, the makeup sponge becomes twice its size! Just like magic 😉 BTW it looks much bigger in photographs but is much, much smaller in person.

Original Beauty Blender Sponge Review & Price

The beauty blender sponge is said to be latex free which is fabulous for those with sensitive skin or allergic to latex. It is also fragrance free which is great as I really get turned off by the way most sponges smell. The biggest advantage of the beauty blender over the traditional makeup sponges is its conical shape which gives an even, streak free finish. It also helps to apply foundation on hard to reach places like the edges around the nose, under eye area, inner corner etc.

Efficacy
Let me make a confession, when I started beauty blogging one of my big time dreams was to own the original beauty blender but I was still sane, sane enough not to spend on a humble makeup sponge which I can get for 200 bucks! After using the blender myself, I can totally see why people are ready to invest in this. It gives the most perfect airbrushed finish which is even and natural. It is especially good at applying high – medium coverage foundations like the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation which can settle into pores or look patchy very easily.

Being a sponge, it does sheer out your foundation/BB cream a bit hence I don’t use it to apply BB creams or sheer foundations. It also claims to work well with powder or mineral foundations but I felt it gave me a patchy finish everytime I used it dry. The pink beauty blender is also very soft and feels oh so google woogly 😉

How To Use The Beauty Blender Sponge

How to use a Beauty Blender?

The best way to use the beauty blender is by soaking it under running water and then squeezing out the excess 3-4 times. The brand recommends towel drying it but ain’t nobody got time for it :p Make sure your sponge is damp and not wet. Next, I dot some foundation on my cheeks and dab it with the round edge of the beauty blender. Dab it like you stipple a brush then blend it in circular motions. dab-blend-dab-blend! Work on one area at a time be it the cheeks, nose or forehead and use the pointed edge to apply the foundation around your nose and eyes.

Beauty Blender Dupes

There are many beauty blender dupes available. The more popular being the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge, Sephora Precision Sponge etc. I have only tried the RT Complexion sponge which I thought was amazeballs, well that was until I tried the real deal. The RT Beauty Blender Dupe is pretty good no doubt but it absorbs much more product compared to the Beauty Blender and does not give as even a finish as the pink cutie. I totally recommend the Real Techniques Sponge if you are on a budget but it does not perform as well a Beautyblender sponge.

Beauty Blender Review: How to clean the sponge!

How to clean Beauty Blender?

Beauty Blender has 2 cleansers for cleaning the sponges – a liquid cleanser & a beauty blender solid cleanser which is like a soap, you lather it with the sponge and wash it off.  For me, baby shampoo works the best. It is mild and gentle yet cleans the sponge adequately!

HBM Rating
4 / 5(Reviewed by Lisha B.)Original Beauty Blender Review + How To Use a Beauty Blender

HBM Recommendation: The Original Beauty Blender Sponge is a fabulous makeup tool which applies the foundation evenly and gives a flawless, airbrushed finish! This helps in making your base look even and prevents it from looking cakey. This is a must have for beginners to experts alike and will certainly help you in getting the perfect finish. The price is a big issue but trust me it is totally worth the investment!

  • I live beauty blender.... Bought the black one though....I heard pink one stains a bit....absolutely agree on your points abt beauty blender...I also have RT sponge..that picks up too much PDT as u said....beauty blender is really good and best works for foundations....

  • Even i wanna own it but then the price, ouch... i m pretty sure it performs a splendid job.. but have to stick to budget too.. arghh.. anyways nice review n clicks hun...

    • trust me I felt the same way but this is a sure shot way to a perfect and well blended base. Buy it for your birthday or something so that you don't feel guilty :p

  • I use baby shampoo too!! And I love love this. A regular sponge just does not come even a bit close to this..

  • Can you do a post on makeup brushes necessary for face makeup? I mean for applying foundation, power and blush

  • I just got it recently and it blends the concealer out like its nobody's business!! Has put all my brushes to shame!

    • tell me about it. I rarely get an even finish with a concealer but this makes it so easy!

  • not for people who are crazyyy finicky about hygiene... like me... I'd forever keep worrying about things that 'remain inside' and cause breakouts... :( almost bought this last weekend on luxola, though.. talk about temptations :P now I'm tempted again! haha
