How many times have you gone to the parlour for a trim and came back home with much, much shorter hair? Indian women and their love for long hair is not unknown and getting a trim after months of trying to grow your hair longer has been the most unnerving thing for me. The last bad experience I can recall was when I went to a popular salon in South Delhi for a trim and ended up with uneven hair that was 5-6 inches shorter. That hair cut not only managed to surprise everyone around me but also had me feeling down in the dumps for a long time.

Being a beauty blogger has it own perks so when Geetanjali Salons kindly offered a personal consultation with hair extraordinaire Mr Sumit Israni, I literally jumped at the opportunity. After having had the most terrible haircuts in my life, one which involved bangs that ended 2 inches above my brows (yeah, that was something!) I couldn’t wait for Sumit to work his magic. He has styled the hair of many famous personalities including Hillary Clinton, Chitrangada Singh, Lisa Haydon and now me 😉 *swoons*

Having gotten some natural highlights at Geetanjali Salon a few months back (read all about it here) I was ready to push the boundaries a bit and go even lighter with my hair this time. I wanted to go as light as we could for my complexion and left it all upto Sumit. He told me we’ll have to pre-lighten my hair as its quite dark and I was informed in advance that would mean more damage hence I’ll really need to take good care of my tresses. Since I’m anyway quite regular with hair spas and oiling, I decided to go ahead with it. He used a mix of ash blonde & light golden brown for my highlights and the whole coloring process took almost 3 hours.

We then moved on to the haircut and it was some sight seeing Mr Sumit Israni cut my hair. He just went snip snap snip with his tools without the help of hair clips, after consulting with me about my preferences!! The end result was perfection & my hair has never looked this better. The length was maintained while my hair was cut in a way that wouldn’t require much of heat styling or care. I was lucky enough to have my crowning glory taken care by Sumit Israni at Geetanjali Salon in Vasant Kunj however I can confidently say that all the hairdressers and stylists at their salons are well trained and experienced. With the interaction I’ve had with them in the past and the fabulous services I’ve experienced, I can honestly just walk into any of their branches knowing that I’ll be in good hands.

Keratin Hair Treatment at Geetanjali Salon, Saket

As expected, my hair got drier and frizzy after pre lightening it. I have always had very dry and unmanageable hair which just got worse. I had been planning on re-bonding or smoothening but the whole re-touching process plus the re-growth period where the roots of the hair end up looking like “noodles” was something that did not entice me much. So, instead I opted for Keratin Hair Treatment at Geetanjali Salon. Keratin Treatment infuses keratin into the hair, which is a protein our hair naturally consists of. The process involves a keratin hair-straightening product being applied to the hair which is then blow dried or flat ironed. The hair is then covered with a shower cap and the product is allowed to rest for 20 minutes or so after which it is washed off. Depending on the product used, you might be asked to go back home and come back the next day to get it washed.

The process of Keratin Hair Treatment took about 2 hours for my medium length hair. I was a bit worried about the pungent smell that I had read about being quite common in the treatment, but it was luckily quite bearable and the whole process was fuss free. My main aim was to get softer, more manageable hair without getting rid of my waves which is exactly what I got. After getting the procedure, the frizz is all but completely gone and it is absolutely low maintenance. All you need to take care of is to only use a sulfate free shampoo after the treatment. The effect lasts for 3-5 months and unlike rebonding or smoothening, your hair type is maintained and you do not need to go in for regular touch ups.

I got it done last month and my hair is still as soft and manageable like it was the day I got the keratin hair treatment. Incase I need to straighten it, the time has reduced by 50%.
